Mobile Payment, Banking Adoption Modest in Thailand Mobile payments haven’t exactly taken off in Thailand. For evidence, look no further than Uber: In February 2016, the mobile-only ride-sharing service, after several years in Bangkok, opted to start accepting cash from customers in that city. Still, the building blocks are in place for mobile payment growth, with more than two-thirds of Thailand’s population expected to be mobile phone users this year and over three-quarters of adult residents having a bank account.
