In Indonesia, Local Smartphone Vendors Face Challenge from Low-Cost Chinese Devices Indonesia presents a growing market for smartphone manufacturers, although it is dwarfed in size by regional heavyweights China and India when ranked by user numbers. While local manufacturers have done well in Indonesia, they face a growing threat from Chinese vendors targeting the sub-$100 price band with 4G-capable devices. And although 4G is now offered by five of Indonesia’s mobile carriers, uptake of mobile broadband may not be happening as fast as regulators would like.
